Baseball continues to grow as the sport of choice among youngsters in the East Stuart community. Over the past 10 years, through the East Stuart Baseball Initiative – a private-public partnership between the City of Stuart, Martin County North Little League, and ME’s Team Foundation -- more than 500 new players from East Stuart have participated in Little League programs. A decade ago, there were no baseball teams from East Stuart. This resurgence of baseball in our community has highlighted the appetite that our youth have for the game of baseball. For this reason, Northstars Baseball, Inc., a non-profit organization founded to promote baseball and softball in Martin County, continues to assist with the funding to help keep baseball programs relevant and vibrant in East Stuart. This includes assistance with field maintenance, equipment, registration fees, and uniforms. These benefits continue to enhance participation as we make a statement of support for young athletes in East Stuart.
The Sam Shaw Foundation honors the life of a vibrant and loving young man who grew up playing on athletic fields in Martin County. Sam Shaw was only 19 when he passed away. Today, he is remembered through the foundation established by his family, friends and former lacrosse teammates at Jensen Beach High School. The Sam Shaw Foundation provides scholarships to high school senior athletes, who are in need of funding to further their education.
