Our History
In 1988, a handful of runners gathered in a meeting room at Martin Memorial Hospital (a fitting place considering how many of our members have had surgery there over the years!) and formed the Sailfish Striders Running Club. During the past two decades the purpose of the club was to promote running in the area, provide group training runs and increase the number of area races. Today, rebranded as Treasure Coast Running, the club’s emphasis is on promoting an active lifestyle for Treasure Coast residents.
We have partnered with several organizations to provide training and races for all levels of runners and walkers. Our Run for the Pineapple 5K is in its 25th year, and most recently we established the Marathon of the Treasure Coast, a Boston Qualifying full marathon event. We concentrate on promoting area races, and organizing several club races and a race series. We also offer club fun runs, training runs, and social events. The club uses the proceeds from its activities to support local charities and offers scholarships to graduating seniors in Martin and St. Lucie Counties. The Club is open to runners and walkers of all abilities. We encourage our members to get involved by running or volunteering at our races, hosting a fun run, sponsoring an event or serving on our Board.
Our mission is to provide organizational, social, and philanthropic activities that foster injury-free health and fitness to members of the community, predominantly through endurance sports.
We usually run Tues, Thurs, Sat at 5am, but always check our Facebook page the night before to verify the time and location where we are meeting. We typically meet Tues and Thurs at the parking lot beside City Hall in Stuart, and at the Gazebo at Tradition Square. We also have groups that meet in Palm City, Port St. Lucie, Ft. Pierce, and South Stuart. We typically run about 3-6 miles (the speedsters often run 8 to 10). The Stuart route is well lighted and has a water and restroom stop at the 1.5-mile mark. We run an out-and-back route so we hit this water stop twice. Saturdays, we meet at different places, sometimes we do the Stuart-Jensen beach loop (about 10.6 miles), sometimes we run from Fleet Feet.
There is no fee to run with TC Running. It is always a free service to the community. Come join us any day you like. Let us know that you’re coming so 1) we can hook you up with a group of runners at about your same pace, and 2) we know to wait for you if you’re coming. We do usually start right on time (mostly because people have to get to work), so if someone doesn’t show we just assume they’re not coming (being a 5am run and all, people sometimes sleep through their alarms…).
